CJKC Classes

The two current classes held within the Colorado Junior Karting Club are:

KID KARTS -
This class is designed for beginning drivers ages 5 through 7.  Although entry into competition is not allowed under five, it is common that youngsters may try it out and even begin to practice at age three or four.  There is also some flexibility given to first time drivers that may technically be older than seven but have little or no experience and are still the physical size necessary to fit into a Kid Kart.  Example: It would be better for a legitimate eight year old who has never been in a Kart, (who still fits) to spend a season racing in Kid Karts rather than be forced due to age alone to run in a higher class.  This can potentially be very intimidating and can quickly take the fun out of what could be a positive long term involvement in the sport.  Age is established by the acquired age as of January 1st of each year.  A driver can, in most cases, move up to the next class prior to that classes acquired age if, in the best interest of the driver and class participants but it is rare for a driver to move down a class.  CJKC runs the Kid Kart class using the nationally recognized rules outlined by IKF (International Karting Federation).

JR-1 K80 –
This class is also considered a national standard and is designed for drivers ages 8 through 12.  Local, regional and even national Karting sanctioning bodies recognize and organize events open to this class.  You will find both first time beginning drivers as well as seasoned veterans who have moved up from the Kid Kart class all competing together in Jr-1.  With a little more power, speed and diverse driving experiences Jr-1 can be one of the most exciting classes of the day even at a national event.  Likewise, CJKC uses the nationally recognized rules outlined by IKF to govern its Jr-1 class.
